Cohoes, New York · June 21, 2017: People living with intellectual and developmental disabilities are soon to have a new option when it comes to actual living space. A new supportive housing development called Mosaic Village™ is slated to open in 2018—a unique development in New York created to improve quality of life for those on the autism spectrum. With 68 affordable housing units, onsite supportive services, a medical clinic, and daycare, Mosaic Village aims to make life easier for all residents.
An announcement ceremony will be held on June 21st at the future location of Mosaic Village site at 55 Sargent Street, Cohoes, NY 12047. Development details will be provided and Mayor Shawn Morse and City Staff will speak on the impact Mosaic Village will have on the community. Renderings and floor plans will be available for viewing.
“Mosaic Village has been designed to meet special needs within the community—yet will still appeal to all people,” said Rick Manzardo, Vecino Group President. “As this development gets underway, we’re grateful to have received City and State support and excited to see Mosaic Village become part of the vibrancy of Cohoes.”
Mosaic Village was granted tax credits by New York State Homes and Community Renewal, as well as funding from the Office for People with Developmental Disabilities. Construction is expected to begin in November 2017 and will take roughly 12 months to complete. The development team includes The Vecino Group, 3TArchitects and The Alternative Living Group, a local non-profit which will maintain a presence on the first floor and provide supportive services to residents. Support from the City of Cohoes helped Mosaic Village move from a proposal to a reality.
